We’re proud that three of our members completed advanced degrees this year. Musicians 1st Class Chris Bayes and Tony Halloin both completed their Doctor of Musical Arts, and Musician 1st Class Jen Krupa completed her Master of Music. The Navy Band believes strongly in continuing education as one way for the musicians here to continue to be “The World’s Finest.”
Musician 1st Class Chris Bayes, flutist in the Concert/Ceremonial Band, joined the Navy Band in 2000. Bayes earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance this year from the University of Maryland. Before joining the Navy, she had earned a Master of Music in flute performance from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Music of West Virginia University.
Musician 1st Class Tony Halloin, a tubist in the Concert/Ceremonial Band, joined the Navy Band in 2004. This year, Halloin finished his Doctor of Musical Arts in tuba performance at the University of Maryland. Halloin also holds a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music with teacher’s certification from the University of Michigan, both earned prior to his appointment to the Navy Band.
Musician 1st Class Jen Krupa, a trombonist in the Commodores jazz ensemble, joined the Navy Band in 2004. Krupa completed a Master of Music in jazz performance this year at the University of Maryland. Krupa’s previous degrees include an Artist Diploma in jazz studies from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies from the University of North Florida.
