The Navy Band will be hosting a blood drive in the Sail Loft (building 105/112, Washington Navy Yard) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 for the entire Washington Navy Yard. In the past year, the band has become one of the top providers of blood. At our last drive, we raised 99 units. Within three days, those units were in Afghanistan helping troops on the front lines.
The Navy Band has been targeted as a lead provider, so we have been invited to compete in the "Army vs Navy Challenge." The branch with the most donors will be recognized at the Army-Navy football game on Dec. 10. In addition, the winning host will be presented with a trophy at half time. Most importantly, this is a chance to support the troops during the holiday season.
You can schedule an appointment online, but walk-ins are welcome, too. The NNMC Bethesda staff will be tripled for this drive in anticipation of a large turnout. As always, donors will receive delicious cheesecake and a free shirt.
Don't forget to:
Schedule your appointment at www.militarydonor.com (sponsor code: Navy Yard)
Bring your ID
Bring a friend
Drink plenty of water
Eat a good meal prior to donation
Bring a list of all current medications
Please give blood on Dec. 8.
Chief Musician Chris Bayes plays flute in the Concert Band and coordinates the Navy Band's participation in the Armed Services Blood Program.
